Latest news:July 25, 2010 Al competed at the Eagle Raceway in Eagle, NE on Friday in his first spec tire race back as a car owner. After finishing 4th in his heat race, Al raced to a 3rd place finish in the feature from the 8th starting position. Al ran as high as 2nd most of the race, but settled for 3rd after a hard charging Kyle Berck passed both Al and race long leader, Bo Egge, late in the race. On Saturday, Al competed at the New Thunderhill Speedway in Mayetta, KS. Al finished 2nd in a thrilling heat race that saw Himself, enventual winner Terry Phillips, and John Anderson swap positions several times. After getting shuffled back to 9th from his 6th starting position early in the feature, Al raced his way back to a strong 2nd place finish behind Kelly Boen. "We have something to build on now for the remainder of the season. We will take it and move on to next week and get that first win for APR at Dodge City. The car was good and Zach (Simmons) is doing a great job. It feels great to be back in control of my race program. I feel like we will only get stronger as the season moves on." The APR team heads to Dodge City and Wichita, Kansas for a pair of NCRA events this weekend. Al would like to thank Larry Shaw Race Cars, Hatfield Racing Engines, VP Racing Fuels, Taylormade Proformance, Integra Racing Shocks, Hoosier Racing Tires (G.P.), Smiley's Racing Products, Duralite Racing Wheels, Allen Sign Studio, Wilwood Brakes, Schoenfeld Headers, Proformance Bodies, Bert Transmissions, Mason Racin, and Razor Oil Pumps. Note: Al hired former MLRA rookie contender, Zach Simmons, to crew chief the #33 Larry Shaw Machine for the remainder of the 2010 season after the split with BK Motorsports. July 17, 2010 Al's return to owner/driver was a less than stellar outing at the Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday. Al fought a tight race car all evening and was forced to use a provisional after loosing the final transfer position on the last lap of the "B" feature. After using the provisional, Al raced to a 16th place finish. Al had this to say about the night, "We were too tight all night. This car seems to have more traction than the cars we've been running. We just weren't very good. The soft tire game is just really not our thing. We do to work on that part of our program. We will work hard this week and be better next weekend!" The team heads to a couple of NCRA race this weekend at Eagle Raceway and Thunderhill Speedway. Al would like to thank Larry Shaw Race Cars, Hatfield Racing Engines, VP Racing Fuels, Taylormade Proformance, Integra Racing Shocks, Hoosier Racing Tires (G.P.), Smiley's Racing Products, Duralite Racing Wheels, Allen Sign Studio, Wilwood Brakes, Schoenfeld Headers, Proformance Bodies, Bert Transmissions, Mason Racin, and Razor Oil Pumps.July 5, 2010 After a conflict will car owner Bill Koons on Saturday afternoon before the Corning, IA race, Al chose not to race the BK Motorsports entry on Saturday night. Al Humprey loaned Al his race car so he could continue his quest for an unprecedented 7th MLRA Championship. Al has now chosen to race his own Larry Shaw race car for the remainder of the season. Al said the situation just wasn't working out for either party and that he thought that was the best answer for the deteriorating situation. Al would like to thank Bill and the entire BK Motorsports team for their support over the past two years. Al had this to say of the split, "Sometimes things just don't work out the way they should. I wish Bill and his team the best of luck in the future. I hate the timing of all this, but the situation was driving me crazy. The conflict on Saturday just pushed me over the edge." Al finished 11th in the Al Humphrey owned entry. Both were a little disappointed in the outing but it was good enough to keep Al second in the Lucas Oil MLRA standings just 8 points behind Brad Looney. Al had this to say, "I want to thank Al Humphrey for loaning me his car on such short notice. If we can manage to pull this thing out, we will owe a great deal to Al. At the very least, he kept us in the hunt! Thanks again, Al."**********************************************************Apil 11th, 2010
